If you and your GP decide that you need to see a specialist for treatment, you can now choose where and when to have your treatment from any hospital that provides NHS care for the referred condition. This includes local hospitals and NHS foundation trust hospitals across the country.

You can also choose from a growing number of independent sector treatment centres and hospitals, which are private hospitals that have been contracted to provide services to NHS patients.

You can choose according to what matters most to you.You can choose the hospital with the best reputation or shortest waiting times, or simply the one which is most convienent for you. You can compare hospitals by going to the NHS Choices website.

Choose and Book is a service that allows you to choose and book an appointment with a specialist. For more details and to access the online appointment system please go to the
Choose and Book website.

If you do not have access to the internet and need to book an appointment through the Choose and Book system all libraries in South Gloucestershire can now help you make your appointment.

(Please note: You may not be given a choice when referred to Mental Health Services or where speed of access is important, such as stroke, heart attack or cancer).
