NHS South Gloucestershire is responsible for buying or commissioning healthcare for the population of South Gloucestershire. Our vision is to maximize the health and wellbeing of people in the area.
We aim to do this by:
· Improving the health of people living in South Gloucestershire by effective partnerships with organisations and local people.
· Reducing the differences in health between people and places in South Gloucestershire.
· Bringing more health services closer to local people by delivering more primary and community based services.
· Improving the experience of local patients when they use health by making sure that health services are provided promptly, safely and effectively.
We want to achieve this by improving people’s access to health services. We do this by offering more choice about where and when people are treated, further reducing waiting times, and providing better sign-posting to services to ensure patients use services appropriately and receive appropriate care and treatment. We are also investing millions in developing community facilities and in providing care closer to local communities. We have health improvement programmes that tackle a range of health issues like obesity and smoking that aim to improve the health of those living in South Gloucestershire.
We are working hard to improve our patients’ experience of the care they receive by involving and listening to local patients and the wider community, incorporating patients’ views into any changes we make to services and continuing to improve the quality of services our patients receive.
As a commissioner of health services we only commissioning health services that are clinically and cost effective and we use our buying power to ensure that care is provided in line with best practice and is of a high quality.
